Special Transformers
Grounding transformers are specialized units used to provide a neutral point in three-phase, delta-connected power systems that inherently lack one. They enable ground fault detection, allow the operation of protective devices, and help limit transient overvoltages during earth faults. Grounding transformers are essential in generator plants, wind farms, solar PV stations, and isolated MV systems, where neutral access is required for system grounding, arc flash reduction, or residual current protection.
TEK Transformatör designs grounding transformers in accordance with IEEE and IEC, and utility-specific specifications, offering diffrent configurations for system compatibility.

Key Technical Features
- Provides a neutral grounding point in delta-connected systems
- Supports resistance grounded, reactance grounded, or solidly grounded systems
- Available in Zig-Zag (Zn0) or Wye-Delta winding configurations
- Typical ratings: 100 kVA to 5000 kVA
- Voltage class: up to 36 kV
- Designed to withstand short-duration ground fault currents
- High thermal and mechanical strength for transient fault conditions
- Optional integration with: Grounding resistor or reactor, Neutral current transformers, Arc suppression coils (Petersen coil)
- Corrosion-protected tank with surface treatment per ISO 12944 (C3/C4/C5) for outdoor installation
- Impedance Sizing & Earth Fault Current Limitation
The impedance of a grounding transformer is a key factor in controlling ground fault current and ensuring proper coordination with protective devices. TEK grounding transformers are designed to withstand fault currents from 1 kA to 25 kA for up to 10 seconds, with impedance levels tailored to system requirements. Proper sizing helps maintain voltage stability and minimize thermal stress during earth faults. For resistance-grounded systems, a Neutral Grounding Resistor (NGR) can be added to precisely limit fault current, and TEK offers fully customized designs based on fault level, grounding method, and system voltage.
